No Buts About It... This Bum's Worth Getting to Know
There's a new bum in town... well, specifically, at the SCI Resource Centre, Lyndhurst Centre, Toronto... and you are going to want to get up close and personal.
The "bum" is a 3-D anatomical model. It features different stages of pressure ulcers. It is a very realistic representation and can be used as a great teaching tool for people with spinal cord injuries, their families and members of the rehabilitation team.
In the past, two-dimensional pictures were used to describe pressure ulcer, but they didn't offer a clear understanding because the images were not real enough. The Bum Model shows a very real view of what varying degrees of ulcers look like. As a teaching tool, the hope is that the incidents of pressure ulcers will be reduced through education on prevention.
In the near future, the SCI Resource Centre is hoping to get a 3-D model penis and vagina to help teach people about cathetarization.
Naming opportunities are still available! ;)
