Ontario Solutions Alliance

SCI Solutions Model

Who We Are:

Under the leadership of the Canadian Paraplegic Association (CPA) Ontario, the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation (ONF), and the Rick Hansen Institute, strategic partnerships with researchers, service providers, policy makers, funders, consumers, and additional key provincial stakeholders have been established to create the  Ontario Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Solutions Alliance.

What We Do:

The Ontario SCI Solutions Alliance is an integrated, client focused, and evidence-based, province-wide system that supports people with SCI across all continuums, from injury onset through to full community reintegration and participation.
SCI stakeholders internal and external to the alliance provide input to help identify the unmet needs of people with SCI. Issue working groups are subsequently created within the alliance, which utilize the appropriate skill-sets of alliance members, to  address the priority unmet needs.
Ultimately we feel that through the utilization of key networks within the Ontario SCI Solutions Alliance, much work can be accomplished resulting in improved quality of life for Ontarians living with SCI.

Activity Across the Province:

In addition to the provincial alliance, regional alliances have been developed throughout different areas of Ontario. The needs of people with SCI vary from region to region; and therefore, the establishment of regional alliances ensures that these varying needs will be met through the identification and subsequent action in different priority areas.

Key Success Factors:

Communication and collaboration between regional and provincial alliances are key success factors in accomplishing objectives at both levels. Close alignment of provincial and national translational research activities has been made possible through funding from Health Canada and the Province of Ontario, and a commitment
of collaboration between provincial and national stakeholders. Ontario’s leadership is resulting in cooperative synergy that has yielded advantageous outcomes for the benefit of all Canadians with SCI.
