CPA Ontario

An Information Forum was held in Windsor at Malden Park Continuing Care on Monday, March 10, 2008. The theme of the session was: "Ask the Doc: The Doctor is in to discuss YOUR issues! Bring your questions!" Our guest speakers included Dr. Nathania Liem, FRCP(C) and Denean Kristalovich, RN.

Dr. Liem is the Medical Director and Consulting Physiatrist at Windsor Regional Hospital and Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Ontario and South Western Ontario Medical Education Network. Dr. Liem’s most recent presentations have addressed management of the spinal cord injured patient in the ICU and Stroke Rehabilitation Unit.

Denean Kristalovich, RN is the Intake Charge Nurse for in-patients at the Rehab Unit at Windsor Regional Hospital, Western Campus. She is also a liaison for all acute care sites in the Windsor area.

Approximately 13 people came to this event. The session was very informal (just the way Dr. Liem requested!) Many excellent medical questions were raised.  Discussion also revolved around the ongoing issues in the Windsor-Essex County area, including housing, financial assistance, and barriers for people living with SCI as well as other physical disabilities. The evaluations of the session were excellent. The folks who attended say they enjoyed the time spent together. Dr. Liem and Denean were very pleased with this event. Thanks to Dr. Liem and Denean for their valuable time and expertise.

With the help of our new Community Development Coordinator, Cassandra Lebel, we look forward to planning another Information Forum in Windsor.  More details to follow.
