Collaborating with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)

CPA Ontario has recently received multiple calls from members about the new “Preferred Vendors Policy” implemented for Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) clients effective March 3rd, 2008.

CPA Ontario members expressed concerns about having to potentially change their current vendors who have been working with them for many years. Their vendors understand their needs, and accommodate them efficiently. This is a very valid concern. If the situation is working fine - why fix something that’s not broken?

After meeting with the WSIB, CPA Ontario learned reasons why this policy was created. WSIB’s interest for implementing this policy is to reduce the amount of time when processing claims, to ensure quality of services, to ensure timely deliveries, and to ensure availability through large product lines. These may be good reasons to adopt such a policy, however, WSIB’s choice of suppliers for the “preferred vendors list” does not mean that there are not other vendors who also provide high-level, quality services.

CPA Ontario members’ who are WSIB clients and do not want to change current vendors, must speak directly to their adjudicators. WSIB says that your adjudicator will work with you in resolving concerns with your claims with regards to this WSIB Policy.
