We’ve Got Your Back
NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 14th, TORONTO – In 1983, Barbara Turnbull was shot during a robbery at a grocery store, and sustained a spinal cord injury. Some people would think her life was over. Not even close! Barb’s first victory was to live and then she didn’t stop. One victory after another, Barb has rebuilt her life and today, is the stellar example of all someone can be.
On June 17th, at 2350 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, starting at 6:00 pm, the Canadian Paraplegic Association will celebrate the many victories of people with spinal cord injuries during a gala event entitled Club 1945. The event features the sounds of the Big Band era with Juno winner, Bob DeAngelis and his 13 piece band. Dancers from Capital Dance Company will perform for the crowd and veterans from today and our past will be honoured with a special veterans’ reception as it was veterans who started the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
“A spinal cord injury happens in an instant. People are never prepared for the journey that lies ahead of them post injury. For 65 years, the Canadian Paraplegic Association has given people somewhere to turn for help. We’re celebrating our victories!” says Bill Adair, Executive Director, Canadian Paraplegic Association Ontario.
Award recipients will include world renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Charles Tator, and The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company.
