Toronto Wheelchair Relay Challenge a Huge Success
Canadian Paraplegic Association Ontario held its 13th annual Toronto Wheelchair Relay Challenge yesterday morning, September 21, at Yorkdale Shopping Centre. More than 60 teams took to the track and raised over $286,000, the most ever raised at one of the organization’s provincial Wheelchair Relays. Over 1,000 people were present at the event.
Teams were made up of 8 people with and without disabilities. Each member of the team was required to complete one lap around the track equal to .75km. The following is the Winners’ List:

Joanne Smith emceed the event. Also featured were onsite activities and entertainment for spectators including clowns, face painting, a stilt walker, Charlie Chaplin, Dough Dude, a pizza spinner, Bubble play, inflatable bouncer and the Blue Thunder Argo Cheerleaders. Shayne Smith, an Ambassador of Paralympics Ontario, motivated the crowd with his opening remarks.
“Thanks goes to all of the people who were either on a team, a volunteer, a sponsor, or a fundraiser, and to all of those people who helped spread the word about the event. They all joined together and worked as a team to make this event so successful,” said Lynn Mineque, the Event Manager.
