Small adapted cars - both electric and non electric
Hi, my husband and I are both wheelchair users who are tired of only being able to purchase vans. We would like to able to purchase a small modified car but can't since the federal government won't allow it - something about crash tests. The companies who only sell wheelchair vans don't care about smaller vehicles since they make lots of money selling vans. So they don't bother the feds about changing the rules.
Not sure what CPA is doing about this, but I sure wish they would help change get the rules changed and enable spinal cord injured people to choose what vehicle they want to drive. Small adapted cars are being driven by people with disabilities around the world and some of the cars are quite nice. Just not in Canada. Anybody else interested in this issue?

federal gov't - crash tests
Thanks for this post. I have not heard of this legislation and also I am very intrigued by it. I am definitely going to look into this further to get some answers. If you have any further information around this I would love to hear from you.
Small cars!!
Oh what a pleasant experience it would be to have more choices!! And, it would be much healthier on our wallets and the environment as well. I often wonder if people look at our huge van coming down the road and think we do not care about the environment. The cost of fuel - now that high is the new norm - is beginning to limit how often and how far we drive. With the smaller vehicles, perhaps the costs would be more managable for individuals to have access to their own transportation - this being a huge issue in rural areas where there is no access to transit.
In this age of "green" it would be great for the government to revisit the regulations and allow some of these vehicles into Canada.
