Images

Normally, images are only displayed with certain types of postings (i.e. some node types), and only in an automated way. This is sometimes restrictive, but for most times it is more reliable, looks nicer, and is easier for you, the editor.

To include an image with a posting, first check that the node has an 'attached image' section when editing it. If so, you can select any previously uploaded image and it will display automatically with that posting.

If you want to include an image that hasn't already been uploaded, then first create a new "Image" node, and attach the image. Important:

1. Choose the appropriate type (normally, "photo").
2. Give it a title that describes the photo, not how you're going to use it (usually, don't name it the same as the associated story).

Once it's been uploaded, go back to the news/event/etc/ node and it will appear (named with whatever title you gave it) in the drop down list of available image attachments.

Sizing

For the most part, when you upload an image, it will create lots of resized versions of that image, and use the right one in the right place.

So, you should upload your image at the biggest size you'll ever want it displayed - typically 640 x 480 is enough, but double those dimensions to make sure.

You do need to pay attention to relative dimensions - if the image is landscape orientation and displayed where a portrait is required, then it'll just have a lot of empty space around it.

If you want to know those relative dimensions, then just look at an existing image of the right kind as a reference - generally you can right click on an image and load it in a new browser window where the browser will tell you it's dimensions.

You can view the image module sizes on the image admin settings page.
